With Joy Love Paper Company

Meet Christine, The Founder Of Joy Love Paper Company

Laura: First things first, tell me about your business? What do you create and who do you create it for?

Christine: I am a stationery designer and own Joy Love Paper Company.  I create fun greeting cards, zipper pouches and stickers to help you make someone smile (including yourself!).  My products are for stationery addicts who appreciate quality and are always looking for unique products to gift as well as enjoy themselves.

Laura: How did you first get started in your industry?

Christine: I got started becoming a stationery designer in my teens when I created invitations for my own graduation party and greeting cards for my family members and friends. I even designed my own wedding invitations!

I eventually decided to dabble in creating greeting cards to sell as an opportunity to be creative in my “free time”, and business took off.

Laura: What is one thing you want people to know about you, that they may not already know?

Christine: I love to dance, and danced competitively growing up.  I was the kid that would actually dance down the grocery aisle.  These days my dancing is usually dance parties in my kitchen with my kids!

Laura: What do you struggle with most when it comes to running your own business?

Christine: I struggle with some of the bookkeeping and business aspects of owning my own business.  I want to make products and talk with my customers all day every day! Of course it needs to be done, so I try to sandwich those tasks in between fun, creative ones.

Laura: What is one thing that comes really easy for you?

Christine: Coming up with designs comes very easily to me.  I usually have about 2,308 ideas in my brain at any one time and I dream big! I’m also inspired every day by things I see, hear and feel! Narrowing down can be challenging, but I’m glad that I don’t struggle coming up with new ideas.

Laura: What aspect of your business is the most rewarding?

Christine: Hands down, hearing from my customers that they love their products and that the recipients of the cards or pouches love them too!  From taking an idea in my head and using my own hands to make a tangible product that someone spends their hard earned money is so rewarding, but to make my customers happy with those products brings me so much joy.

Laura: How do you manage the stress and overwhelm of running your own business?

Christine: I have two small children who help me with work/life balance and stress.  I also try to stay as organized as possible, as I find the more stressed I get, the messier my office becomes – and then that adds to the overwhelm!

Laura: Who influences or inspires you the most in regards to your industry?

Christine: I am extremely inspired by Anna Bond of Rifle Paper Co.  She has helped modernize the greeting card industry and evolve to stay strong in this technology driven age.  Her story of growing her business to what it is today is very inspiring, plus she’s a fierce female entrepreneur!

Laura: You have “a worthy brand,” I can see that, but why do you feel your brand is worthy? How do you remind yourself of your worth to continue building your business each day, how do you remind yourself, you are worth it!

Christine: My cards are used to wish loved ones a happy birthday, to thank someone for a good deed or a wonderful gift and to tell someone how much they love them.  By helping others connect, I connect to my customers and it’s wonderful! I am happy to be even a tiny little piece of spreading more happiness in this world.

Laura: And last… if you could give new or struggling entrepreneurs one piece of advice, what would it be?

Christine: Don’t give up! Many entrepreneurs who have built successful businesses credit not giving up as a key to their success.  Owning your own business is difficult at times, but it is also so rewarding.  Even when you feel that you are at a standstill, keep working hard and you will grow and achieve your goals.

Christine has shown me that balance is key!  She got me thinking about how I’m much more productive with a clean and organized studio space.  Thanks for sharing your story with us Christine.
