Wise Oak Soapery

All Natural

From Wise Oak Soapery

Meet Kara, The Founder Of Wise Oak Soapery

Laura: First things first, tell me about your business? What do you create and who do you create it for?
Kara: My business is Wise Oak Soapery, named after my father who was our Wise Oak. I make soaps and balms for those with autoimmunity and chemical sensitivities. All of my products are natural and eco-friendly.
Laura: How did you first get started in your industry?
Kara: Although I have made soap since I was 20, I didn’t get serious about it until my son was born in 2012 and was plagued with eczema. I went on a mission to help him and in my research learned that commercial soaps are drying and damaging to the skin. As I learned more and more, I began to make all of my own products from soaps, to balms to shampoos, conditioners and deodorants. During this time, I also learned I have autoimmunity and dove deeper into natural care.

Laura: What is one thing you want people to know about you, that they may
not already know?

Kara: I am on a mission to educate people about the harmful ingredients in food and our surroundings. I have found people just are not aware and assume everything is safe because it’s approved – as I once did.

Laura: What do you struggle with most when it comes to running your own business?

Kara: Knowing how to market without feelings salesy. I am still learning proper copy writing.

Laura: What is one thing that comes really easy for you?

Kara: Sharing my story and how avoiding processed foods and synthetic chemicals have changed my life for the better. Instead of existing, it has given me true life and purpose. I love to share the good news that all hope is not lost when our immune systems become confused.

Laura: What aspect of your business is the most rewarding?

Kara: I really love it all, but I love it best when I hear how my products have changed people’s lives for the better. When I hear that someone has been struggling with their skin or hair and their issue is no longer an issue, I know I am doing the right thing by following my heart.

Laura: How do you manage the stress and overwhelm of running your own business?

Kara: I am still working on this but I have found that keeping a schedule and putting everything on my calendar really helps keep me focused and organized. It helps me see the big picture as well as keep a close eye on the smaller ones and I can be sure everything get done.

Laura: Who influences or inspires you the most in regards to your industry?

Kara: Other business owners. I use to look up to coaches and others who were more successful but I have found others who are where I am a re much more motivating and inspiring as we are learning and growing together.

Laura: You have “a worthy brand,” I can see that, but why do you feel your brand is worthy? How do you remind yourself of your worth to continue building your business each day, how do you remind yourself, you are worth it!

Kara: I know that if I stop them there are many people who will miss the message. While there are many out there promoting healthy lifestyles and whole foods, very few are promoting healthy self-care products, cosmetics and environmental influence. It’s really about your life as a whole not just what you eat through the day.

Laura: And last… if you could give new or struggling entrepreneurs one piece of advice, what would it be?

Kara: Never ever give up and start as soon as the seed is planted! Having a business can be tough as it is a learning curve but be persistent and believe in yourself. I remind myself that for every small business out there, that is one person who believed.

Kara is a dear friend of mine and I’m so glad I got to share her brand with you.  I have tried her products and I must say they work so well!

Her raspberry lip balm has helped my chapped lips and her lavender body balm is great for my dry skin.
