Meet Sharon, The Founder of Fluid Life By Sharon

Laura: First things first, tell me about your business? What do you create and who do you create it for?
Sharon: I create abstract paintings and functional art products using epoxy resin and mixed media. Each piece is handmade and unique. My functional art collection includes one of a kind resin containers, coasters and home decor products. I create for the everyday family. I have a lot of new moms who are always concerned about buying something that looks “pretty”. And my resin pieces such as coasters  are indestructible.
Laura: How did you first get started in your industry?

Sharon: One summer, few years ago, I was looking for crafts online for the kids. That’s when I came across Fluid Art. I started pouring with the kids, and got really into it. I watched several tutorials and lots of trial and error. And I love how resin looked as a topcoat on the painting and decided to have a functional art collection.

Laura: What is one thing you want people to know about you, that they may not already know?

Sharon: I was born and raised in a beautiful island called Sri Lanka. Most of my ocean pieces are inspired from the beaches in Sri Lanka.

Laura: What do you struggle with most when it comes to running your own business?
Sharon: A balance between work and family. I’m a stay at home mom and right now with the Covid-19 Stay-at-Home in place, I have both kids at home with me. Juggling between their zoom call meetings and my work has been a real struggle.

Laura: What is one thing that comes really easy for you?
Sharon: Working Hard!!  I have so many creative ideas running in my mind, which I love to turn into reality.
Laura: What aspect of your business is the most rewarding?
Sharon: Hands down, I would have to say the most rewarding part of my business is working with customers and their positive feedback. Especially at events, when you see people appreciate your work and wanting to own a piece you made is very rewarding

Laura: How do you manage the stress and overwhelm of running your own business?
Sharon: Art is therapeutic to me. I’m glad that I’m able to find an outlet in what I love. Whenever I’m stressed, I go to my studio, turn on some music and create!
Laura: Who influences or inspires you the most in regards to your industry?

Sharon: I have an amazing maker community that I’m inspired by everyday!

Laura: You have “a worthy brand,” I can see that, but why do you feel your brand is worthy? How do you remind yourself of your worth to continue building your business each day, how do you remind yourself, you are worth it!
Sharon: I strive to create unique, transformative handmade pieces of art and décor for one’s personal living space, while being affordable for the everyday family! But mostly my kids remind me that I’m worthy! I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing right now, if not for them. They really motivate me to keep going and they are my biggest fans!!
Laura: And last… if you could give new or struggling entrepreneurs one piece of advice, what would it be?
Sharon: Follow your dreams.
